The drop in centre was started in November 2003 in order to try and help meet the physical and spiritual needs of the street people in our area. Each week we get around 100 people attending and we have had over 300 different people attend in the last 18 months. It runs every Thursday night and officially opens at 7pm. The first hour is very relaxed and there is free coffee, juice and baby milk. We also provide what is needed for people to wash their clothes and wash themselves. Inside there are games, comics and a chance to have a chat and relax. At around 8pm we pack the games away and servce a hot meal to the people attending. Even though the food is pretty simple - for most people there it will be the best meal they get all week. Straight after the food we have a speaker who shares a simple 15-20 min gospel message. We are currently working our way through Mark's gospel and are very encouraged at how well people listen. After that we close in prayer and then the people go back out on the streets - while we are left to clean up all the mess! Please continue to pray for this ministry. Pray that we will be help to help in as many practical ways as possible - but please pray most of all that many of these precious people may come to know Jesus for themselves and find forgiveness for sins and real hope. |
